The CCC saw two US runners on top of the podium but there were some great British performances too.

Hayden Hawks, 27, blew the men's field away and ran alone during his first ever race in France. Ludovic Pommeret, UTMB® hero in 2016, tried to keep up, before losing steam in the long descent to La Fouly, finishing the race in 3rd place, behind Polish runner Marcin Swierc. "My mistake was to try to keep pace with Hawks, wearing myself out too early. I could tell that the tempo was too fast for me, but it also served to widen the gap with the rest of the pack. Much more was expected of me today, but given the high-caliber field, I'm really happy with this 3rd place finish," explained Ludo Pommeret after finishing the race 8 minutes behind 2nd place and 26 minutes behind the winner.

The big story for the Brits in the men’s race was Tom Evans’s incredible run to finish 4th. Tom has burst onto the ultra scene this year with a 3rd place in the MdS and a 4th place at the Eiger Ultra Trail. Tom is going to be a big name to watch in the future and we could see even bigger things from him at UTMB in the future.

Clare Gallagher had a great run in the women’s race. Only 24 years old, she beat the women's field in one of her first races outside the United States and in one of her first experiences running a stage in the Ultra-Trail World Tour. Even though Spaniard Maite Maiora Elizondo ran hard, the American maintained her 12 minute lead when crossing the finish line. Another Spanish runner, Laia Canes, took 3rd place.

There was more British success in the women’s race with Holly Rush of ASICS having a great run to finish in 7th place. despite not having focussed on mountain stuff in training this year. Fellow Brit Tracy Dean finished in 8th place.
