We interview Mary Wittenberg

by editor
Saturday 1st April 2017

We had the opportunity to meet with Mary Wittenberg, Global CEO of Virgin Sport. Mary talked about how she initially got into running via other sports, her competitive running career, her time leading the New York Road Runners and building the New York Marathon up into a huge event, and about exciting ventures with Virgin Sport!

Mary was incredibly passionate about sport when we spoke! She told us that she thinks these are exciting times, where there are so many more routes into fitness and sport than there used to be. She also talked about how fitness has evolved and how there’s now much more focus on all-round fitness. Runners don’t just run any more.

Talking about these developments in fitness brought us to her current passion: Virgin Sport’s Festival of Sport. This is such a genius idea - bringing together lots of challenge events into one weekend. The idea came about from the starting point that you can bring your dream to life through sport, no matter what it is. The first Festival of Sport is in Hackney on 30th April. The running events include a ‘bring a buddy’ 5.5k and, of course, the Hackney Half! Other events include yoga, high intensity interval sessions and bootcamps and there will be music and food.

Watch our interview with Mary and hear her talk passionately about all of this, and lots more!

The first Festival of Sport takes place in Hackney on the 30th April and there is still time to enter here
