Something Wild, a new festival in the South West, is set to appeal to runners of all abilities looking for a new challenge. Sponsored by ViewRanger, the outdoor guide, mapping and navigation app, the festival combines an off-road ‘wild’ marathon, half marathon and 10km trail run, taking place 18-20 September.

The new festival is the brainchild of Ceri Rees, founder of Wild Running (www.wildrunning.co.uk). Something Wild is Ceri’s tribute to trail running and a celebration of the wild and dramatic landscape of Dartmoor. All of the Something Wild runs will start and finish in the River Dart Country Park, situated near the gateway to the National Park just five minutes from the A38 which links Plymouth to Exeter and beyond.

Craig Wareham, ViewRanger co-founder, said: “This new, family-friendly running festival is a fantastic concept which ViewRanger is proud to support. The inclusive nature of the event which helps more people to get active outdoors and fosters the spirit of adventure makes it a perfect partner for ViewRanger.”

The festival weekend will kick off with a film night, showcasing inspiring adventures and environmental campaigners. There will also be a children’s run alongside the picturesque River Dart, a Forest School session for children aged 3 to 11, including bush skills, a communal dinner and presentation ceremony, with a late bar.

Speaking about ViewRanger, festival organiser Ceri Rees, said: “It’s a fantastic app with a wealth of features that are easy to use. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for inspiration or those who just want to get out and explore in Dartmoor or beyond.”

The ViewRanger app was used to plan the routes for the Something Wild festival and also to measure the Wild Dart swimming route which took place on 22 August and helped to raise funds for the RNLI.
