Recce day 2 for the Montane Lakeland 100 took place over the weekend of January 15th-16th and there was a great turnout with over 50 people signed up.
Saturday included a navigation workshop followed by a short lecture by our guest speaker Britta Sendlhofer who won the female 100 event last year. On Sunday the rain was falling hard as runners set off from Coniston but within a couple of hours it had cleared. A fine afternoon allowed easy navigation and great views as runners passed through Wasdale, Ennerdale and finally made their way over Scarth Gap, descending into Buttermere.
It was dark at 5pm but the moon lit up the whole valley and a wonderful clear sky greeted the runners in the final miles of their journey. At 8pm the last pairing arrived at Buttermere and the day was over (although they had taken a slight detour and swam part of Buttermere!).
The event takes place on the weekend of July 29th-31st and is now closed to entries, hitting the 800 limit January 17th.
A waiting list is in operation for those people who would still like to enter the 2011 event and this is accessed through the main website www.lakeland100.com
