Cockington Christmas Caper
The event was once again a resounding success with 125 runners finishing this year. The overall winner (Arran Tocknell) came in after 50 mins 41 secs, over 5 minutes before the second place runner! There was a huge amount of praise for the race and its organisers…who found it an absolute pleasure to hear so many positive comments at the end of such a vigorous event!

Unfortunately, vandalism of the course during the night resulted in race officials having to re-sign and tape the course in the early hours of the morning, but thankfully did not have an adverse effect on the race itself.
The oldest runner, Patricia Seabrook age 70 years, travelled 70 miles to take part in the Cockington Caper, finishing in under 2 hours.

Moreton Morrell Christmas Cracker 10km
The annual Moreton Morrell Christmas Cracker 10km had a great turn out on a lovely mild weekend. The ground has softened leaving a muddy multi terrain race in the Warwickshire countryside.
The Christmas santas set off ahead of the field but were eventually chased down by the eventual 2nd placed overall male Ryan Holroyd from Staffs Moorlands and the female santa was caught by overall female winner Mel Price from Mercia Fell Runners, both won the £50 prize so a nice start to Christmas!
The overall winner was Phil Gould from Kenilworth Runners just pipping Ryan over the line with a fantastic sprint finish.

The Stockport 10 ten-mile road race
This year’s Stockport 10 was held on Sunday 12 December and once again the ten-mile race was a tremendous success. The race is one of the most popular ten-milers in the UK and attracts a strong field of runners from all over the North West and beyond.
Stockport Harriers welcomed almost 700 runners to the start at their track in Woodbank Park, Offerton, on a very frosty and bright morning, and as usual the atmosphere was described as friendly and welcoming. There was much praise for the supportive and encouraging marshals and for the overall organisation. The long-sleeved technical T shirt and famously bizarre goody bag (this year the focus of an extensive YouTube teaser campaign) were also extremely well received by finishers.
The race saw a host of brilliant performances. The men’s race was won by Matthew Clowes of Staffordshire Moorlands AC in 50:34. Matthew, who has been training at altitude in Kenya for the past six weeks, returned to the UK in great shape and smashed his personal best time by over a minute. This has taken him to the top of the runbritain rankings for 2010 in his under-23 age group. At the other end of the age groups, Stockport Harriers’ Frank Reilly crossed the line in 63:45 to finish first in the V65 category, which also sent him to the top of the runbritain rankings in the over-65 age group.
Gavin Thompson of Altrincham & District AC finished second in 51:35 and Philip Hoole of Rotherham Harriers & AC was third in 53:44. Altrincham took the men’s team prize.
The women’s race was won by Olivia Walwyn of City Of Norwich AC in 59:16. Stockport’s Sarah Lomas was second in 1:02:57 and Stockport’s Ruth Jenyon third in 1:04:42. Stockport took the ladies’ team prize.
It also appears that a new world record was set at this year’s race. The record was set by Lee Riley, who covered the ten-mile distance in 73:10 carrying a 40lb backpack. Lee, who spent ten years in the armed forces, is aiming to run the London marathon in under four hours carrying his backpack to set another world record and to raise funds for The Soldiers’ Charity.

Princess Alice Hospice’s second 2010 Santa Fun Run and Jingle Bell Walk
Old Deer Park, Richmond was full of more than three hundred Santa-suit clad sprinters and reindeer antler wearing walkers who took part in Princess Alice Hospice’s second 2010 Santa Fun Run and Jingle Bell Walk.

Men, women, children and quite a few energetic dogs took part in the event, which must have come as a surprise to the local rugby and football teams and the Military Fitness groups, as they went about their usual Sunday fitness regime they were engulfed by a sea of red and the sounds of jingle bell sticks.
Some runners like John Mansfield and James Stratton, Richmond battled to win the men’s race - with John just nudging ahead by 10 seconds - and Lucy Bowen, East Sheen just nudged ahead of Megan Tapsell, Ealing to win the women’s race. Not everyone was a competitive runner; hundreds of supporters just took the opportunity for a morning of festive fun and fitness. Joining the run and entering large teams were staff from GSK, Brentford and AFC West End Football club, Esher.
The Richmond event and the Bushy event that took place on November 28 were both successful, and next year perhaps the Hospice will get even more runners and beat the world record for the largest number of Santas in one place. With the record standing at almost 13,000 this is a huge ask; however, if the whole community get behind it there is no reason for the record not to be beaten in 2011.

Some of the 780 participants across the events have already generated over £7,000 on the justgiving site alone. With paper sponsorship forms, pledges, and entry fees still to be collected and counted the figure is sure to increase.
Hospice Fundraiser, Martina Hunter from Addlestone, and her family took part in the fun and were on hand to say a thank you to all supporters who have fundraised for the Hospice in 2011; they even came prepared with a sign to express their gratitude.

The Votwo Pudding Catcher
Festive cheer and a happy ending for all except the pudding! The Pudding Catcher is a 12km multi-terrain running race with a difference. Hunt down the Christmas Pud but don’t eat him alive and win prizes on the day. Pippingford Park near Crawley provides a stunning off road course on rough tracks, through fields and on forest trails.
The pudding is a mysterious votwo elite athlete hindered only by the fact he or she is dressed as a Christmas pudding. First competitor to catch the pudding wins £100 in cash. The pudding will have a few seconds head start and is on a strong incentive not to get caught!
This year James Baker was first across the line, leaving the Pudding to finish in second place, almost seven minutes behind.

Mince Pie Race
This year's Mince Pie Race, organised by Seaford Striders, was held on one of the best days of the winter so far, with a very mild temperature and blue, sunny skies.
As a result it saw a series of records being broken: our highest ever race entry of 386, nearly reaching the 400 limit; a record 326 finishers; and both course records for men and women broken. Robbie James of Lewes AC was the overall winner with a new men's record of 58:26 and Katy Moore, from Brighton & Hove AC, was first woman, smashing the previous record by several minutes in a time of 67:31.
It also meant we were able to raise a record amount for our chosen charity, Seaford First Responders, who will receive more than £1000.
