Race news: RunLiverpool Marathon - October 14, 2012
The 2012 RunLiverpool Marathon will host a 10K race this year in conjunction with the marathon. The 2011 full marathon attracted 8,500 entries and the introduction of a new 10K distance is likely to take the entries to over 10,000 this year.
The 10K distance will widen the appeal of the event and Race Director Alan Rothwell said: "...the marathon is without doubt one of the most demanding physical challenges in sport and it is a great credit to all who go on to complete the 26.2 mile distance. For some though it is too much of a challenge and by introducing the 10K distance we hope that more people will be inspired by the atmosphere of the day and achieve their own personal goal of running 6.2 miles."
The day will see both 10K and marathon runners set off from Birkenhead Park on Sunday, 14th October and the 10K distance will take runners as far as Coastal Drive in New Brighton where they will complete their race. They will be ideally placed to see the marathon runners continue on to the end of King’s Parade before turning back on themselves to head back toward Birkenhead via the promenade and then on to the Queensway Tunnel.
It is expected places will be limited to 3,000 this year and they will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
