Race preview: Preston Guild Marathon and Half Marathon - October 28, 2012
Viewed by many as ‘the one not to miss’, the Guild Marathon and Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 28th October 2012 as part of the Preston Guild celebrations.
Preston Guild is a historic celebration dating back to 1179. It is the only Guild still celebrated in the UK and as such is unique. The 2012 celebration will be the first Guild in the 21st century and the first since the granting of Preston’s city status in 2002. Held only once every twenty years, the Guild plays an important role in the development of Preston as a thriving and important Lancashire city. Preston has been designated UK European City of Sport for 2012.
Preston’s first ever marathon is already creating huge interest and sign up. A 5k mini-marathon will provide an opportunity for young people to take part.
Both races will start and finish in Preston city centre. A great course has been carefully planned, taking in the outlying areas of Penwortham, Cottam and into the more areas of Lea Town, Salwick and Treales before returning to the city centre. Roads are closed to accommodate the route and the expected high turn-out.
There will be a fantastic atmosphere guaranteed with street entertainers and music to keep spectators entertained, so be a part of Guild history and sign up today. Miss it and you’ll have to wait another 20 years to take part!
There also are 5k, 10k & Fun Run Road Races on Sunday 30th September from 9.30am
Registration is £35 for the marathon and £17 for the half marathon.
Early entry is advised for a with online entry available at www.prestonguild2012.com.
