Independent Age is looking for more runners to take part in The British 10k, powered by Nike+
The British 10k attracts 25,000 runners from around the world to take part in the most prestigious 10k road race anywhere. The course takes in many of the country’s greatest landmarks including Big Ben, The London Eye and Westminster Abbey. This summer London is hosting three of the biggest events in its history: the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the Olympics and the Paralympics, so taking to the city’s streets this year will be unlike any other.
Independent Age is currently looking for more runners to take part in this year’s race in support of their work to help older people on low incomes. We are a unique and growing charity providing information, advice and support to thousands of older people across the UK and the Republic of Ireland. We offer a helping hand from a trusted friend, tackling older people’s poverty and loneliness by offering a nationwide, free of charge advice service, and befriending schemes.
Harriet Steele, Event Fundraising Manager at Independent Age, said “We are delighted to have a team of runners dedicated to supporting the older people we help to live with dignity and peace of mind in their later years. It’s fantastic that people are coming together in support of Independent Age.”
Hayley Alexander, Volunteering Systems Assistant at Independent Age who will be completing the race said “Working at Independent Age I can see firsthand what a great connection the charity has with the people we support. To be able to raise awareness especially among my peer group, a younger audience, who may not know anything about charities supporting older people is something I’m really proud to be a part of.”
If you’re interested in getting fit, raising some much needed funds for our work with older people and are free on 8 July, we’d love to hear from you.
