Yoga for Runners with Bridget Sanderson - Open Day and workshop information
Bridget Sanderson is a keen recreational runner who has been practicing yoga for more than ten years. She has competed in races from 5k to marathon distance. Bridget philosophy is that any runner will benefit from incorporating yoga into their training schedule.
Yoga works to strengthen the mind and body, it develops balance and body awareness and creates mental focus, all of which are beneficial to a runner. Bridget’s workshops have been designed specifically for the runner, each exercise purposely isolates and challenges specific muscles for stronger, more efficient running.
Why is Yoga great for running?
Stabilisation - Activation of the stabilising muscles of the pelvis ensures good alignment of the spine, pelvic girdle and knees whilst running
Balance - Yoga postures improve proprioception and body awareness
Strengthening - Excercises target the Gluteal muscles and the VMO (Vastus Medialis Obliquus), which in turn decrease stresses through the IT band (iliotibial) and the pirifomis
Increased foot flexibility - Resulting in less impact on landing and therefore reduced risk of developing plantar fasciitis
