Kenyan stars Limo and Cheromei coming to Prague once again

by Press Release
Tuesday 31st January 2012

Race preview: Hervis Prague Half Marathon - March 31, 2012

Philemon Limo and Lydia Cheromei, the big stars from last year’s runs in the Czech Republic are returning to defend their titles at the Hervis 1/2Marathon, Prague which is being held this year on Saturday, 31st March 2012 as a part of the RunCzech.com series.

Organisers from Prague International Marathon confirmed start places for the elite Kenyan runners today.

“I am pleased to come back to Prague, it’s where I ran my best half-marathon performance” says Limo who also scooped up first place in the men’s 10 km METRO run in Prague along with another at the autumn premiere of the Volkswagen Ústí1/2Marathon.

Allegedly it is only his fourth year running, yet at just 26 years of age, he has managed to blast out some superb times completing the 10 km run in Nairobi in just 27:36:94. As for the Prague half-marathon, he ran this in 59:30, the best time recorded on Czech soil to date.

“Maybe one day I will bring the whole family over here”, added 34 year old Cheromei, mother of six-year old daughter, Faith who broke the track record here last year at the Hervis 1/2Marathon Prague (1:07:33) while also triumphantly running her best marathon yet (2:22.34) in Prague. Already at the age of thirteen, she succeeded in claiming first place at the World Junior Championship in cross-country running, in 2004 gaining a Silver medal at the half-marathon World Championships and winning the Amsterdam Marathon.

“We’re delighted to see such fantastic runners taking part. The fact that they are coming back only shows they must like it here” acknowledges Carlo Capalbo, President of the organisational committee at Prague International Marathon.

Interest in the Hervis 1/2Marathon among runners is huge. With two months to go before the race starts, over eighty percent of the 11 000 start numbers have already been sold.
