Redway Runners have started special marathon training runs and have been amazed at the number of runners joining them!
It is only three months to go until the inaugural Milton Keynes Marathon on Sunday 29 April. Many entrants to the race are well underway with their training and runners are an increasingly common sight along the roads and redways around Milton Keynes.
Andrew Hully, Race Director of Milton Keynes Marathon is very busy putting everything in place for race day. “We now have over four thousand entrants and over 80 Corporate Relay Teams,” said Andrew. “We are pulling out all the stops and working very hard to make sure everyone, whether running or spectating, has a great day out on 29 April.”
People running in the marathon are now putting in their efforts to build up the long runs gradually. Many are choosing to attend local running clubs to help with training. Martin Lawrence, Chairman of local running club Redway Runners, David Lloyd has noticed a big interest in the new race. “When our club found out a major new marathon was coming to Milton Keynes and that a number of our runners were interested in taking part we wanted to give as much support as possible,” said Martin. “We started special Marathon Training runs and have been amazed that we are getting 50 running with us each week following a structured programme of runs from 10 to 20 miles leading up to the event.”

But the Milton Keynes Marathon will not just be an exciting day for runners - friends, family and casual spectators can all enjoy the fun. The race finishes inside stadiummk, home of MK Dons FC. Runners and spectators will enjoy an electric atmosphere at the finish but there will also be plenty along the 26.2 mile route to keep them entertained.
There will be over a dozen bands playing at various points around the course; there will also be entertainment for all the family in the Sports & Support Village outside the stadium, including the MK Dons SET mini marathon, Heart Radio on stage and stalls run by charities and retail outlets. Spectators will have free entry to the East stand of the stadium once all of the runners have left the start.
A pull out fact sheet giving full details of the best places to be will appear in the MK Citizen before the event.
