Event preview: Speed of Light - August 9 to September 1, 2012
In August 2012, thousands of runners will have the chance of a lifetime – to run a choreographed route around Arthur’s Seat at night in specially commissioned light suits. The stunning results will be viewed by a ticketed audience from the summit of the hill every night as part of Edinburgh International Festival. www.speedoflight2012.org.uk
Speed of Light will take places from Thu 9 August - Sat 1 September, 8pm-1.30am on 20 nights. Runners will take part in small groups and will be on the hill for 1.5 to 2.5 hours. You'll need to commit to a date to register. Your precise start and finish time will depend on the group you are allocated to, and this will be confirmed in June. You can take part on as many nights as you like.
We’re looking for distance runners from all across the country to take part. Runners should be fit enough to complete 3-5k – with some hill work – by summer 2012 and able to stay active for up to two and a half hours at night.
There will be elements of running, jogging and walking within the choreography and training packages will be provided for all registrants. Each and every runner is essential to the creation of this event and it’s important you are able to attend an orientation session and to commit to your chosen event night.
You will need to be willing to run in all weathers as the performance will only be cancelled in extreme circumstances.
Taking part will be a truly memorable experience running with a personal light suit on; it will be physically challenging; mentally stimulating and great fun! Runners will be provided with access to training schedules, online forums and discussion groups, t-shirt and goody bag.
Runner spaces are filling up fast and only a few dates are remaining so make sure you don't miss out!
You can register as an individual or as a group. Full details can be found on the event website www.speedoflight2012.org.uk
