Weekend warriors set to take on UK’s most popular adventure challenge

by Press Release
Friday 20th January 2012

Race preview: Trailplus Weavers Down Winter Warmer - Hampshire, Sunday January 22, 2012

This Sunday 160 teams of three will take part in the Trailplus Weavers Down Winter Warmer in Hampshire. The event, which is now in its sixth year is an action-packed, adrenaline-fuelled sporting journey for teams of three - male, female or mixed.

Held at a military base – Longmoor Camp, Hampshire – the sell out event promises to be an epic battle with teams from all corners of the country battling through the elements.

Staying together at all times, groups of adrenalin junkies will be challenged to complete an off-road, multi-terrain odyssey including trail running (approx 10km), mountain biking (up to 25km) and kayak canoeing (1000m max).

For good measure there will be some special challenges thrown in for the brave and adventurous as well, including the infamous Slippery Wall, which this national event series is now renowned for.

Abi Hunt from Fleet is taking part this weekend with two friends, in a team called team Adventure Dementia. She said: “We haven’t done any events as a team before and for two members of the team it is their first adventure race, so they’re particularly excited about the challenge.

“We’re all looking forward to it but we’ve decided that we’re in it to have fun, rather than taking it too seriously. This week has been quite demanding to get out and train in the bad weather, but we’ve all committed to the challenge and cannot wait to see what lies ahead on Sunday!”

The event is now full but spectators are welcome to come along and watch this year’s participants as they are put through their paces, starting at 10am.

Trailplus will be launching a new series of events in October 2012, starting with the Camberley Caper Adventure Challenge, Surrey on 13 October.
