The 8th edition of the GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run takes place from September 1 – 8, 2012
500 runners from more than 25 nations will be facing the challenge of an Alps crossing and – in eight days – overcome about 320 kilometers and 15,000 meters of elevation.
The course leads from the Bavarian town of Ruhpolding to Sexten in Southern Tyrol. The number of participants is limited to 250 two-person teams, as of now registrations are accepted at www.transalpine-run.com.
The starting shot to the GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run 2012 will sound on September 1 in Ruhpolding, and with a bombshell at that: right on the first day of the event, athletes will have to overcome almost 50 kilometers on the trail to the new stage town of St. Johann in Tyrol. From there the course continues with a magnificent Alpine panorama toward Kitzbühel and the on to Neukirchen at the Großvenediger. The fourth stage will take the GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run into Southern Tyrol, first for a break in Prettau in the Ahrn Valey. Then, Sand in Taufers, St. Vigil and Niederdorf in the Puster Valley need to be passed before participants reach Sexten after having run average daily stages of about 40 kilometers of distance and 1,900 meters of elevation difference.
Since its premiere in 2005, the GORE-TEX® Transalpine-Run has very quickly become one of the world’s most sought-after trail running events. It gets booked out sooner and sooner every year and frequently attracts runners from more than 25 nations. Perfect organization, a family-like character and spectacular trails across the main ridge of the Alps make sure runners will have an unforgettable experience. Athletes start depending on their age in five different ranking categories: Men, Women, Mixed, Master Men (combined age 80+) as well as Senior Master Men (combined age 100+). The course alternates every year between the West Route (from Oberstdorf to Latsch) and this year’s East Route from Ruhpolding to Sexten.
The event is organized by the event agency Plan B (www.planb-event.com), responsible for the course is Bergschule Vivalpin (www.vivalpin.com), title sponsor is the brand GORE-TEX®, whose technology is being used by many leading running and trail running brands (www.gore-tex.de).
