Second race in the series taking place at Camberley MOD this weekend - Saturday December 3, 2011
MudMan, the second race in the Asics Off Road Race Series, takes place this Saturday (3rd December 2011) and sees 500 participants take on mud, hills and potentially some spills in the Ministry Of Defence training ground just outside Camberley.
The Trail Run event comprises 12 kilometres of rough, tough and dirty trails through forests and gullies while the Off Road Duathlon takes in almost the same run course as the Trail Run, over a slightly shorter distance of 8km, followed by a bumpy, gritty mountain bike circuit of 16km. The Duathlon then finishes off anyone still left standing with a further 8km run. Of course, the Asics MudMan would not be complete without some generous helpings of mud and the weather has done us proud this week - any clean finishers will be questioned!
Results after IceMan, the first race in the Series, puts National Cross Triathlon Champion Richard Stannard at the top of the Series Leaderboard with 50 points, hotly pursued by a group of triathletes, duathletes, off-road specialists and top-class age groupers all within a couple of points. With Stannard confirmed to be racing again at MudMan along with Jim McConnel, Colin Dixon and Chris Panayiotou the action at the front end looks to be fast and furious once again. Elite duathlete Jez Cox will also look to get amongst the top placings after an unfortunate DNF at IceMan while the word from Twitter is that top age grouper Paul Davies has got his hands on a brand new 29er mountain bike after Stannard’s success on one at IceMan.
The Women’s field at IceMan saw a dominant performance from Kate Robson make her the athlete to beat at MudMan but with 5 events in the series left and some interesting names down to start at MudMan the Series is anything but over. Any competitors who missed out on entering MudMan have still have the opportunity to get involved in the Asics Winter Series with TuffMan, WildMan,TrailMan and PineMan all coming up in the new year.
