Ravenstonedale 10K

This years race was an exhilarating experience as runners battled some pretty strong winds and, at times, horizontal rain to complete the course.

Despite the weather, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the run which completes three different loops around Ravenstonedales quiet country lanes. Supporters in the village thus have more than one opportunity to cheer on all the runners each time they pass through the bottom end of the main street.

One hundred and fifty rather wet individuals finished the race to be rewarded by a welcome cup of excellent hot soup provided by the Black Swan, one of the local hostelries in the village.

This year, as ever, the event was well organised and had the usual upbeat, friendly atmosphere. In addition to prizes for the fastest runners in each age category, there were , thanks to the support of local businesses etc; some impressive spot prizes. This was the icing on the cake for a superb local event.

Hugh Wilson Memorial 10km road race

Hugh Wilson was a long standing East Kilbride Athletic Club athlete who competed in distances ranging from 800m to the marathon. Hugh was tragically killed, in the late eighties, whilst comuting to work on his bicycle aged only 39, leaving behind a wife and two young daughters at the time. It is a mark of the respect that the club had for Hugh that the event still takes place annually to this day.

The 2011 event experienced adverse weather conditions, with high winds and rain.

Kris Berry produced a very strong performance leading the event virtually from the gun or whistle as it was.

A huge vote of thanks goes to the four officials and numerous marshals who braved the dreadful weather for the duration of the event. East Kilbride AC would also like to thank all who helped the event go ahead and look forward to better weather next year!

Wandlebury 6 mile trail run

149 runners signed up for the inaugural Wandlebury 6 mile trail run in Wandlebury Country Park near Cambridge.

The race took place on a beautiful November day with a lovely relaxed atmosphere. At 10am the runners set off on the traffic free, 6 mile course, that takes the runners through the country park and out onto the Roman Road.

Ian Turner was the first runner back in the park, finishing in 35:57, while Joanne Breslin won the women's competition in 42:44.

There were t-shirts, medals and goody bags for all the finishers with free hot drinks to keep the runners and spectators warm when the wind started to blow a northern breeze.

It is hoped that this will be an annual event. Click here for further information.

Wolverton 5 road race

The 47th running of the annual Wolverton 5miles road race in Milton Keynes saw 226 finishers, some 50 down on last year.

There was a very strong cross-wind blowing across Willen Lake which affected the finishing times but produced a good race up-front as Steven Philips (Southampton) and Matthew Armstong (Coventry Godiva) were still together with a mile remaining.

However the south coast man took the honours with 25.12, the Coventry man second in 25.19. Leading the chasing pack in third came Fabian Downs (Chiltern Harriers) recording 25.50.

Amy Whitehead (Sale Manchester) came back down south to easily retain the ladies trophy with a time of 27.37. Her sister Lucy Waterlow (St Albans) was second lady (30.59) ahead of Fionna Kennedy (Ealing S & Mx) who recorded 31.59, not only first veteran lady but in the W50 classification.

KP Corporate Kingsbury Water Park 10k

Tipton Harriers veteran athlete Phil Clamp won the second running of the KP Corporate Kingsbury Water Park 10k in windy but fine conditions but on a course that had plenty of mudded paths and wetland areas to make it a testing event for all 300+ who entered.

Clamp, an expert runner in the cross country genre started strongly and gradually eased his way to the front early on and left the others to do the chasing in the vain hope of catching him but his time of 33:21 was testament to his abilities in tough conditions.

First woman home was Ute Baird of Team Raidlight in 43:07, Ute was sponsored by Team Raidlight to compete in the event.

Thames Hospicecare Santa Dash

The weather was fantastic and although a little wet under foot many people got around the course in good time. The fastest Santa was Helen Preedy who managed to get around the course in under 25 minutes, the event looks to make over £40,000 for Thames Hospicecare
