ASICS launches new collection of lightweight, natural running shoes with propulsion technology

November 2011 marks the European launch of ASICS 33; a collection of lightweight footwear which offers a new natural running experience. The 33 collection is a new addition to ASICS’ performance range and comprises of athletic footwear offering protection, flexibility, comfort and support in a lightweight, less structured package.

The ASICS 33 collection brings the brand’s innovation to the natural running market. The collection offers a responsible application of technologies, to give consumers a comfortable, lightweight shoe with a responsive ride, whilst still maintaining adequate support to minimize impact.

The 33 collection represents an exciting new interpretation of the ASICS Impact Guidance System (I.G.S.), the research-based, natural movement philosophy that ASICS pioneered over 10-years ago.

With each shoe weighing less than 300 grams*, the collection provides an enhanced natural motion in a less constructed environment. ASICS has designed the shoes to allow all 33 joints in the human foot to function in a very natural and efficient motion due to the less constructed style. ASICS Propulsion Trusstic has been integrated into the design of the shoe to enhance the foot’s natural windlass mechanism, propelling the wearer forward with each step. The ASICS full length Guidance Line, visible vertical flex grooves, and the Propulsion Trusstic encourage the foot to follow its natural progression along its gait.

Simon Bartold, Specialist Sports Podiatrist and ASICS International Research Consultant says: "The ASICS 33 is a unique product, designed to work with all 33 joints of the foot. It is a lightweight, deconstructed product which offers flexibility and comfort in a lightweight package. It is ideal for the runner wishing to add a new mix to their training schedule and specifically designed for an awesome road feel and ride in the tradition of our long held believe the shoe should work with the foot…not against it. The 33 collection is the new benchmark in natural running technology."

ASICS is launching three models of 33: The GEL-EXCEL33 (SRP £120) and GEL-HYPER33 (SRP £100) with specialist retail in November 2011 and GEL-VOLT33 (SRP £110-£90) will start to be sold exclusively at Intersport from March 2012.

ASICS GEL-EXCEL33

With every technical detail considered for maximum performance and minimal weight, this cushioned high-mileage trainer weighs less than 298g. Although it is less constructed than a more technical trainer, the GEL-EXCEL33 ensures a fully supportive and efficient, natural run.

A new midsole construction includes ASICS’ innovative Propulsion Trusstic and full-length Guidance Line technologies. The one-piece Propulsion Trusstic mimics the Plantar Fascia connective tissue in the bottom of the foot. By collecting and releasing tension, it encourages a smooth transition from midstance through propulsion phase, thus minimising muscle fatigue. This works together with ASICS’ full-length Guidance Line to maintain a natural, efficient gait and ensure running efficiency mile after mile.

Multiple, deep forefoot flex grooves allow the tooling to decouple so as to mirror the foot’s natural movement. A 48-degree SpEVA top layer is placed underfoot for comfort, while the denser 53-degree SoLyte base provides responsiveness and stability. ASICS’ visible Rearfoot and Forefoot GEL Cushioning Systems are positioned between the two layers to deliver optimum shock absorption.

Contributing to the natural running sensation, ASICS’ unique external Heel Clutching System works with the Personal Heel Fit (P.H.F.) memory foam to create a secure, customised heel fit. Furthermore, the mechanics of the Heel Clutching System help keep the shoe’s weight to a minimum. The upper delivers an exceptional fit and reduced irritation, while webbing mesh provides breathability.

ASICS GEL-HYPER33

The new GEL-HYPER33 is a lightweight, high-mileage trainer that delivers a stable, yet incredibly responsive ride.

ASICS’ innovative Propulsion Trusstic and its full-length Guidance Line ensure enhanced running efficiency and natural foot movement. By mimicking the Plantar Fascia connective tissue, the one-piece Propulsion Trusstic collects and releases tension. This encourages a smooth transition from midstance through propulsion phase. Incorporating a vertical Flex Groove design, ASICS’ full-length Guidance Line increases running efficiency as it ‘guides’ the foot to maintain a constant Line of Progression and encourages it to reach the ideal toeoff position. Together, the technologies maintain a natural gait, minimise muscle fatigue, and ensure running efficiency mile after mile.

The GEL-HYPER33’s dual-density midsole construction combines a cushioned 48-degree EVA upper layer and responsive 53-degree SoLyte base. Bonded together for improved flexibility, the softer upper layer provides comfort, while the denser bottom layer helps maintain stability. Sandwiched between the two, ASICS’ Rearfoot GEL Cushioning System promises excellent shock attenuation.

Additional features include: Removable Sockliner; 3M Reflectivity; California Slip Last; AHAR+

ASICS GEL-VOLT33

The GEL-VOLT33 combines several ASICS technologies to offer top-quality support, comfort, cushioning, and natural motion.

ASICS’ Propulsion Trusstic and full-length Guidance Line enhances running efficiency, maintains a natural gait and minimises muscle fatigue. The one-piece Propulsion Trusstic mimics the Plantar Fascia connective tissue in the bottom of the foot. By collecting and releasing tension, it encourages a smooth transition from midstance through propulsion phase. ASICS’ full-length Guidance Line increases running efficiency by guiding the foot to maintain a constant Line of Progression and encourages it to reach the ideal toe-off position.

A single layer SoLyte midsole provides excellent bounce-back properties, cushioning durability, and exceptional light weight. The shoe’s cushioning and comfort features are further enhanced by ASICS’ Rearfoot GEL Cushioning System that provides optimum shock absorption and comfort upon impact.

A highly breathable combination of mesh and webbing mesh upper features reflective 3M elements.

Additional features include: Removable Sockliner
