Race preview: Run24 - Wasing Park Estate near Reading, Berkshire. 30 June - 1 July 2012
Run24 Race Director Chris Sumner is excited to launch details of a brand new race concept developed for 2012 – Run24, a 24 hour individual and team relay taking place in the scenic Wasing Park Estate, Aldermaston near Reading, Berkshire.
Run24 takes place over the weekend of 30 June - 1 July 2012 with a tagline of ‘Run Camp Eat Sleep Run’ which says it all! It is a 24 hour race run over an 8 km / 5 mile loop of woodland trails, welcoming both experienced ultra runners and endurance virgins. Free camping, entertainment, 24 hour catering and beautiful surroundings give it an exciting festival feel and the fact that you can enter as individual runner, club, corporate team or charity makes the options limitless. There really is no excuse not to get involved if you need a new running challenge that takes you off the beaten track and want to push yourself a bit further whilst fully embracing the weather and elements of nature.

You can compete as an individual, a pair or a team of 3 to 8 runners in mixed, male or female categories, either with the aim to win one of the great prizes or just to take part and have some fun whilst meeting like-minded people and literally breathing running for 24 hours. It’s up to you how many laps you complete and how fast you run, although the organisers recommend that you should be able to run 10k comfortably.
The race starts at 12.00 noon on Saturday and ends at 12.00 noon on Sunday, running through the night. Solo runners remain on the course throughout the race taking breaks as and when needed, whilst pairs and teams need to have one runner on the course at all times throughout the 24 hour period. Head or hand torches will be required between 8.00pm and 5.00am, and the 8km course is a mixture of roads, woodland trails and grassland. The race is also chip timed and splits/distance covered will be available following the race. The winners of Run24 will be the individuals, pairs and teams that cover the most distance in 24 hours.
Entry to Run24 is now open and costs £60 for solo runners, £80 for pairs and £175 - £220 for teams, which includes free camping on site. Your friends and families are welcome too.
