Braid Hills Rrace 2011

Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds Braid Hills race 2011 couldn't have seen a nicer day for the races! With a 'little' rain overnight to soften the ground, conditions were perfect, and with the largest field the race has seen in the past few years (349 runners) all was set for a great day's racing. Runners came from all over Scotland and as far away as Swansea to take part in the race which is on the annual calender for many universities and clubs due to its popular (usually muddy) course.

The Men's race saw over 220 runners tackling the tough 6 mile course. In the individual race the first three over the line were.

Men's results

1 Niall Sheehan Lasswade AC 32:35
2 Jamie Stevenson Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds 32:59
3 Mickey Breen Corstorphine AAC 33:11

The hosts went even better in the team competition with their Men's A team following up last years first place finish by taking the first spot again by an even bigger margin, with their B team pipped into 4th place. The top three teams in the Men's race were: 1 - Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds; 2 - Leeds University A; 3 - Costorphine AAC A.

In the Ladies race, the green-vested troops set out to better their second placed team finish last year. Individually there were some brilliant runs by members of the club and the first three ladies over the line were:

Women's results

1 Claire Ward HBT 18:34
2 Megan Crawford Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds 18:42
3 Emma Raven Leeds Uni/Doss AC 18:53

In the team race, the ladies stormed to the top spot with some great team running. The top three teams were: 1 - Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds A; 2 - HBT A; 3 - Fife AC A.

The first Male Under 20 over the line was Jamie Stevenson in second place with the first Under 20 lady Halina Rees who was over the line in 4th place. The winner of the Vet's race for the Men was the club's very own honorary president Robin Thomas and Hazel Dean took the honour for the ladies.

A BIG thank's to all the ran, helped, baked cakes for the cake sale and those who travelled up for the race. Thanks must also go to the race organiser Sarah Hazzard, who ensured that the race was a massive success as ever!

Seagrave Wolds Challenge 2011

This event was devised to encourage exploration of the rolling countryside around Seagrave, and to raise money to help towards the refurbishment and upkeep of Seagrave Memorial Hall and to support other good causes.

The seventh Seagrave Wolds Challenge was another success. The weather brightened and the ground was soft but less hard going than the last couple of years. The competition at the front was fierce and despite the course being slightly longer than last year the front runners all posted sub 1:50 times. Most importantly, and as always, the views and fruit crumbles were fantastic!
