Streets Ahead Croydon Half Marathon returns in 2012

by Press Release
Wednesday 2nd November 2011

Following the success of its inaugural Croydon Half Marathon in April 2011, the town’s leading running clubs – Striders of Croydon and Croydon Harriers – are working in partnership once again to host the Streets Ahead Croydon Half Marathon on Sunday April 1, 2012.

All proceeds from the entry fees will be divided among three Croydon charities - Nightwatch, Croydon Harriers and Sandilands Clubs – to benefit the local community.

The charity aspect of the race will benefit considerably from the estate agent group Streets Ahead becoming the headline sponsor. Its funding of the key elements of the race mean that all the entry fee money can go straight to the chosen charities.

“We are delighted to be the headline sponsor for the 2012 Croydon Half Marathon,” says Amir Ghomshei, manager of Streets Ahead. “Streets Ahead is committed to helping Nightwatch, the local homeless charity, and believe the Croydon Half Marathon is a superb opportunity to raise funds and awareness.”

The Streets Ahead Croydon Half Marathon will start at 9.15am at Sandilands Club House. The undulating, accurate two-lap course is similar to running the Croydon 10K twice and will end at Sandilands Clubs which is different from last year when the race ended on Lloyd Park Avenue.

“Last year’s event was a great success but we could see that a slight change of route would make it better for runners and local residents, especially our very patient neighbours in Lloyd Park Avenue!” says Robin Jamieson, race director. “We’re delighted to have Streets Ahead on board. Their support will help us not only deliver a first-class running event but will also significantly boost our fundraising potential for Nightwatch as we won’t need to take our admin costs out of the fee entry funds this year,” he says.
