Race report: Orbital Rush - Sheffield, October 15, 2011
The first UK stadium stair running event, organised by Shelter’s Events team, took place in Hillsborough Stadium just over a week ago and was a great success! Each of the forty participants raced over Hillsborough’s 2,000 step course and raised much needed funds to help Shelter tackle the root causes of bad housing and homelessness.
Hillsborough Stadium received valuable press coverage, both locally and nationally, including The Daily Mirror, the Sheffield Star and Radio Sheffield. Over the past three months Hillsborough Stadium publicised Orbital Rush to their fans, and on the day they provided a handful of key staff to grant access to our event team and assist with parking.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Stadium Operations Manager John Rutherford said: “We were really pleased to host Shelter’s first Orbital Rush event. We were impressed with the Shelter events team and their success in organising this great event.”
This was the first of what we hope to be a series of stadium running events, each recruiting hundreds of runners and raising thousands of pounds for Shelter.
