Physicool - Cooling Sports and Medical Bandage

by Editor
Thursday 6th October 2011

It works for horses, cricket players and tennis players - surely this is of use for the runner too!

RICE is the first treatment for most acute injuries and Physicool can help with the I (ice) and C (Compression) - the R (rest) and E (elevation) are easy

Physicool is a new, unique stretchy reusable bandage that combines cooling with support and compression and works by drawing heat out through rapid evaporation, as opposed to most other products that work by driving cold in. Physicool gives instant treatment for inflammation and bruising of muscles, tendons and ligaments combined with a long lasting cooling effect even after the bandage has been removed.

Physicool - Cooling Sports and Medical Bandage

  • Reusable cooling bandage
  • No need for refrigeration
  • Quickly reduces swelling and pain
  • Easy to apply, even one handed
  • Helps speed up the healing process

The extensive research and testing of Physicool was carried out over a two year period. The latest test results were taken when using the most-up-to-date thermal imagery technology.

By applying Physicool to the lower leg area the temperature was reduced by 7ºc in 10 minutes. This allowed the leg to cool using a slower process, avoiding more traditional ice methods that can cause ice burns and other damage. In total a measurement of 10ºc was recorded as the temperature continued to fall over a 15 minute period.

  • 2) 15mins of exercise no bandage
  • 3) With bandage after 5mins

Once the bandage was removed the area continued to stay cold for over an hour thereafter, giving the athlete approximately fours hours of pain relief.

Physicool has been tested on over 240 athletes covering a wide range of disciplines all of whom found it to be an excellent First Aid kit essential.

Available at Boots

Physicool is available in various sizes suitable either for wrists, knees and ankles or elbows, thighs and shoulders. Each self-fastening bandage comes in a re-sealable foil pouch that contains a small quantity of the ‘magic’ Physicool coolant liquid, which quickly reduces swelling and pain and helps speed up the healing process. It is easy to apply, even one handed and does not require any refrigeration. The reusable cooling bandage is then gently wrung out, and placed back into the pouch, before being re-applied.

Physicool products are available in retailers Boots and Lloyds Pharmacy and bandages retail between £9.99 and £14.99 dependent on size and 500ml coolant for £16.99.

NEW: Physicool cooling T-Shirts - stay cool stay focused

Physicool has recently launched a new cooling t-shirt in partnership with former pop-star Lee Latchford Evans. The new cooling t-shirt is an exciting development for Physicool which blends innovation and technology for both professional and recreational athletes in the sport, health and leisure industries.

Physicool Max helps release heat quickly, allowing more oxygen-rich blood to be drawn into your upper body improving speed, power and endurance. More blood flow means less lactic acid build-up, less muscle stress and breakdown, so less pain and quicker recovery. Stay cool and give it your all when everyone else is melting. Whatever the temperature you can stay cool to deliver your best performance.

Physicool has also recently received high praise in the medical field by Mr Simon Garrett BM MRCS FRCS, Consultant Orthopaedic & Trauma Surgeon at Dorset County Hospital, who has started to use Physicool bandages and cooling spray on patients after having had knee replacement surgery.

Mr Garrett, explains: “We are constantly looking at ways to improve our patient care. If we can reduce the pain we can get them (patients) up and moving quicker and they will mobilise quicker (reducing the risk of blood clots) and leave hospital that much more quickly. We have been carrying out some clinical trials using Physicool bandages on patients who’d had knee replacement surgery. We found that post-op, after one-day patient pain scores were much reduced and in the first 48 hours Physicool made a dramatic difference.”
