What's the best way to become the Marathon World Champon? Hard training, bags of talent and negative splits?
According to the Vienna City Marathon website the secret could lie somewhere else!
Vienna City Marathon had a reason for being joyous when Abel Kirui won the 2011 World Championships Marathon in Daegu, Korea. He continued an incredible series. For the third time in a row the current World Champion is a winner of the Vienna City Marathon!
In 2007 Luke Kibet won the global title in Osaka, Japan, only months after celebrating a decisive victory in Vienna. Kirui, the winner in Vienna 2008, went on to triumph at the World Championships in Berlin 2009. Now the Kenyan successfully defended his title. By coincidence, his winning time in Daegu was exactly the same he ran in Vienna 2008, thereby setting the still standing course record of 2:07:38 hours.
