The Grounded Events Company (GEC), organizers of the Brighton Marathon, are delighted to announce they have been awarded a new three-year contract to stage the race by Brighton and Hove City Council.
Tom Naylor, GEC’s Managing Director said “We are delighted with this new agreement. Our main objective as a business is to put on mass participation events which best support the community and raise vital funds for a wide variety of international, national and local charities. We look forward to future liaison with the Council with the city’s best interest at heart.”
After a resoundingly successful first two years, The Brighton Marathon is now gearing itself up for its third edition on Sunday April 15th 2012. More than 18,000 entries have been accepted for next year, a 20 percent increase over 2011.
In the first two years of its existence, it is estimated that over £6m has been raised for charity. More than 320 charities have snapped up entries for next year, a 30 percent increase over this year. In addition, a survey by Tourism South East found that the race drew more than £3.5m into the city’s coffers in its inaugural year.
With more runners entered than ever before, those figures are bound to increase.
