William Hill London Backward Run
One hundred competitors from around the world took part in the first ever William Hill London Backward Run, the daftest race to take place in London this summer, whilst raising money for their favourite charities. The event held in Crystal Palace Park was tough, humorous, and entertaining.

There was a very international flavour to this event with entrants travelling from Ireland, France, America, New Zealand and Scotland, including the present 1km backward running World Champion, Garret Doherty, from Dublin, who completed the 1km course in a blistering 3 minutes 43 seconds and the 3km in 12 minutes 42 seconds. Meg Moult from Waterlooville in Hampshire came first in the women’s 3km (19:51) and Janal Carter from the USA came first in the women’s 1km (06:06)
Sally Raynes, Wacky Nation’s Event Director says: “It was a superb day, the backwards runners really put in 100 percent effort, the spectators were great at cheering on the competitors and everyone had a really great day and contrary to popular belief not a single person fell over.”
The UK Backward Running Championship takes place in Heaton Park, Manchester on 14th August. You can enter now at www.reverserunning.com

Nethy Explorer
The inaugural Nethy Explorer was hailed a great success by organisers when 85 runners from across the North of Scotland took part in the 12k Race.
Explore Abernethy and Cairngorm Runners jogscotland teamed up to host the event to raise awareness and funds for Explore Abernethy, a community-led project that manages and maintains an extensive path network, runs a visitor centre and ranger service.
The multi–terrain run took competitors on a variety of trails and roads through the Abernethy Forest and alongside the picturesque Loch Garten.
Melanie Clouston, race organiser and ranger at Explore Abernethy, said: “We were delighted with the numbers that took part in the race and have had brilliant feedback from them. So much so that this will become an annual event for the area and race calendar. We had fantastic support from a host of local businesses and worked closely with the RSPB and Scottish Natural Heritage to ensure the race was a success. We would also like to thank the Nethybridge locals, the marshalls, the local WRI and all the helpers who made sure the event was fun and went without a hitch.”
First overall male went to Kyle Greig from Forres Harriers (pictured) who completed the course in 43 minutes and 35 seconds and first overall female went to Eilidh Raistrick from local club Highland Hill Runners with a time of 50 minutes and nine seconds.

The Team Challenge, jointly sponsored by Woodfines Solicitors and Baker Tilly was won by team Dawsongroup.
Sally Phipps, NSPCC fundraising manager for Milton Keynes, said "It was great to see so many runners and supporters despite the soggy weather! Funds raised from this event will enable us to continue our work with children and young people and answer calls via ChildLine and our Helpline from children and adults who need advice, support or protection. By taking part you've already helped to make a difference.”

Trentham 10 race 2011
The main talking point before the race was the weather - would it, wouldn't it - rain that is.
At the start it was just about holding off, but after the first 2 miles it had started to steadily rain. At the top of Beech Cliff Road, the steepest climb on the course, the field was already beginning to spread with Ben Gamble taking an early lead ahead of a group of 10 or so runners behind. Leading lady was Michelle Buckle but closely followed by 2nd and 3rd placed Kirsty Stephenson and Ruth Watchorn-Rice. By the second lap and 7 miles the lead had been stretched by Gamble to over a minute with Matthew Woodman now clear second with a very close race on for 3rd between 4 runners as the rain was now falling with some ferocity.
On the final descent towards the Village Hall finish Gamble eased to a clear win ahead of Woodman with Darren Perry of Staffs Moorlands just pipping Boalloy's Carl Moulton to the line for 3rd place. Buckle who also had a clear lead now over Ruth Watchorn-Rice took the tape for 1st whilst Stephenson held on to 3rd place.

Aptek Kelso Crawlers 10k
Despite twenty four hours of heavy rain prior to the start of the race, a record number of runners lined up at the start line on the Cobby in Kelso for the third Aptek Kelso Crawlers 10k race.
176 runners completed the course which takes in the beautiful home of the Duke of Roxburghe, Floors Castle. The multi terrain route starts next to the River Tweed and winds its way around the walls of the castle grounds before entering the estate from the East. Runners then run a loop around the castle before the long fast downhill stretch towards the finish line back next to the River Tweed again. The rain held off for most of the race, however, a heavy shower did catch a few runners before they returned to Kelso Rugby Club where a welcome cup of tea or coffee with some delicious traybakes were on offer supplied by the Hazel Lodge tea room.
Runners from all over Scotland travelled to Kelso as well as a few from England and a couple from Switzerland who were holidaying in Scotland.

The Lichfield Dash
One of the UK’s top junior athletes, Elliot Giles of Birchfield Harriers, won a thrilling Salts Techstep Lichfield Dash in Lichfield, just catching 2010 Dash Champion James Whitehouse, also of Birchfield Harriers, virtually on the line to snatch the coveted Dash Trophy.

Giles is one of the top 20 U20 800m runners in the UK this year and big things are predicted of him. He was full of praise for the event and how special he felt the win was for him: “Other Birchfield athletes told me about the dash and how different it was but I never dreamt in my wildest dreams just how different it was! The atmosphere was incredible especially on such a horrible day weatherwise but the roar from the crowd as I came round the final bend really spurred me on victory, absolutely fantastic.”
Dash founder and organiser of KP Events, was also delighted with Giles’s victory: “His dash win was incredible, especially after his win in the Elite Mile and a relay leg for his Birchfield team to win the relay event too, so he was a triple winner, a first in dash history and the crowd really took him to their hearts. He’s one to watch out for at the 2016 Olympics!”

The Great Bramham Run
The inaugural Great Bramham Run took place at Bramham Park on Sunday 17th July. Despite very poor weather conditions there was a great atmosphere and 350 people came to do the 10K & 5K runs.
There was a lively pre-run warm up session led by Alison Mackie and Louise Robinson. The 10K run was started at 11am by Andy McMenemy (recently completed 66 ultra marathons in 66 days) followed shortly after by the 5K fun run/walk.
146 runners completed the 10K run, 1st Fergus Cullen (38m44), 2nd Michael Savage (39m54) and 3rd Glen Johnson (40m15).
The runs were followed by a family fun day in the grounds of Bramham Park. There was live entertainment, lots of different stalls, real ale bar and Pimms tent, tea room and BBQ. A great day out for all the family despite the weather.
