From Tiara to Trainers

by Press Release
Tuesday 5th July 2011

The newly-crowed Miss Liverpool is getting into shape for this month’s Miss England competition by training for a marathon

Sarah Fairley, 21, from Maghull has signed up to this year’s Liverpool Marathon and joins the ‘Roy’s Runners’ team raising money for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Since being crowned Miss Liverpool in May, she has been preparing for this month’s Miss England competition but decided to take on another challenge and enter the 26.2 mile race.

Sarah has joined the 8,000 other runners who have already signed up to the first marathon in the city since 1993. On entering the marathon Miss Liverpool said: “Since being crowed Miss Liverpool in May, I have been given some amazing opportunities but running the Liverpool Marathon is definitely going to be a challenge.

“I will be running for The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation as it is a charity close to my heart. My family has been personally affected by lung cancer which is why I am running for such a worthy cause, I want to take on this challenge to raise awareness and vital funds for the charity.

“I think it’s great for the city to have the marathon back and I’m hoping everyone is going to come out on the day to support everyone taking part. I’ll certainly appreciate all the encouragement along the way.”

RunLiverpool Marathon Race Director Alan Rothwell commented: “The RunLiverpool Marathon is the perfect vehicle for charities to spread the word about the good work that they do. We hope that by them having an involvement with the event it will encourage more runners to take part - providing support, and of course to raise as much money as possible.”

The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is the only charity in the UK wholly dedicated to the defeat of lung cancer and will be one of the lead charities for the 2011 RunLiverpool Marathon.
