The women’s race turned out to be a real nail bitter with all eyes on Paula Radcliffe who was looking to come back from injury to take her fourth New York City marathon title. Unfortunately it wasn’t going to be Paula’s day and after a strong performance until the last few miles she crossed the finish line in fourth place and was visibly disappointed with her performance. The women’s race was one by Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia in 2 hours 28 minutes and 52 seconds. Russian Ludmila Petrova finished just behind in second place with a time of 2 hours 29 minutes and third place was Christelle Danuay from France in 2 hours 29 minutes and 16 seconds.
