Run with the Physio

by Editor
Friday 6th May 2011

Jelleylegs to offer unique opportunity for runners with running-related injuries/niggles to “Run with the Physio”

For less than £200 you can stay two nights in the beautiful North Yorkshire village of Studley Roger which adjoins the World Heritage site of Fountains Abbey; you can run on three occasions with David Jelley, the founder of Jelleylegs and experienced physiotherapist and after each run you will get a physiotherapy treatment session.

David explained that it is often only during a run that problems for runners emerge. He recalls many stories at his running club of runners wasting money and time visiting physiotherapists who cannot detect the cause of running related problems when they assess runners in a clinic setting.

David gave the example of a runner he had assessed in a gym recently: “I could not understand why she could walk, cycle and do a gym workout (including treadmill running) without difficulty. It was only when we ran together on a mixed on and off road route of about an hour, that I noticed aspects of her running style that could be the cause of her problems. We discussed these as we ran and then I re-assessed her in the clinic afterwards. I was then able to pinpoint some very subtle muscle weakness and range of movement problems that she could work on at home with stretches and strengthening exercises. I reassessed her 10 days later and although not totally pain free, she was thrilled that she had run her favourite 8 mile route for the first time in months”.

JELLEYLEGS

Spent the weekend at jelleylegs a couple of weekends ago. I was the guinea pig for “trail running lite”. Bit worried as I knew I was the only runner for the weekend. In fact it went really well. Good food, great running trails. Nothing too hard core, but still quite challenging for me an Oxford riverbank runner. I’d recommend it for a short break or to discuss an injury/training issue – David is a very knowledgeable physio.
