adidas to boost charity runners’ fundraising

by Editor
Tuesday 1st March 2011

Act now - there's only two days left to register!

£40 donation to be made to every registered adidas runner

This April, over 36,000 runners will take to the streets of London with the one aim of completing a grueling 26.2 miles all in the name of charity. Over 70% of the people who run the world’s number 1 marathon, the Virgin London Marathon, do so for a charitable cause. This year adidas, the official kit and footwear supplier, have launched a unique initiative to help the charity runners with their fundraising.

For every runner who crosses the finish line wearing a pair of adidas trainers*, £40 will be donated to that runner’s chosen charity. This is the first incentive of its kind and adidas is proud to be able to support the runners in this way.

All a runner needs to do is register online at www.adidas.com/londonmarathon and ensure that they have an active Virgin Money Giving sponsorship page. To qualify for the incentive all the runners need to do is cross the finish line wearing adidas running trainers. Timing chips will then be collected separately and cross referenced with registered runners, adidas will then donate via the runner’s sponsorship page within 8 weeks.

adidas produce a range of shoes featuring the latest innovative technology to suit all styles of running. All the trainers within the range are designed for slightly different needs so it is vital to get expert advice to ensure runners wear the correct ones for their marathon training. adidas recommend that if someone is not already running in adidas that they go and get a full gait analysis done to make sure they choose the right shoe from the specialist running range to avoid injury.

Robin Money, head of sports marketing at adidas commented, “We are really proud to be launching such a strong charity initiative and to support runners not only with their training and footwear but be able to sponsor their efforts too.”

The Virgin London Marathon takes place on 17th April 2011.

* Donation only available to those runners who have registered at www.adidas.com/londonmarathon and have an active Virgin Money Giving account.
