by Editor
Wednesday 9th February 2011

The North Face® announces the first The North Face® Ultra-Trail Mount Fuji (UTMF) ultra-running event, during May 20th – 23rd, 2011, at Mount Fuji, Japan.

The race, organized with the cooperation of two prefectures and nine cities of the Mount Fuji township, is the first ultra trail contest organized in Japan that covers a distance of 100 miles (160 km). Inspired by the famous The North Face® Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc®, the event aims to spread the pure spirit of challenge whilst giving the opportunity to discover Mt. Fuji’s area history and culture.

Up to 2,000 ultra runners from all over the world can now register until March 31st 2011 and take part in one of two races over May 20th and May 21st. The main race, The North Face® Ultra-Trail Mount Fuji (UTMF), for up to 800 participants, is a 160km circuit, starting and finishing in Ohike Kouen, Kawaguchiko Fujikawaguchiko-cho in the Yamanashi Prefecture. There is an accumulated positive height gain of approximately 8,000m and a time limit of 48 hours.

The Shizuoka to Yamanashi (STY) race covers a distance of 90km with a time limit of 26 hours and an accumulated positive height gain of 4,500m. Up to 1,200 participants will start from Fujiyama Kodomo no Kuni, Fuji-shi in the Shizuoka Prefecture and finish to Ohike Kouen, Kawaguchiko Fuji-Kawaguchikocho in the Yamanashi Prefecture.

The newly appointed The North Face Global Athlete, Jez Bragg has just confirmed that he intends to compete
